WELDING Class - James Rumsey Technical Institute
Five Cedar Ridge residents had a special opportunity to take part in a 12 week welding program held at James Rumsey Technical Institute welding shop. The students learned basic skills in arc and TIG welding, as well as the basics of shop safety. “Some of the skills I developed were how to pad weld, fill a hole, multiple pass T-joint welds, and vertical multiple pass T-joint welds”, says Luke, a class participant. “We also learned to cut using a torch and plasma cutter.”
The Cedar Ridge residents have already put their skills to practical use by helping construct and install a railing outside Grace Cottage. They are grateful for the opportunity to take the classes, and hope to use their new skills to help find jobs for the summer.
Thanks to David Nicholas, Brian Baine, and Hagerstown Metal Works for helping make this opportunity possible.
